SevaTruck Foundation Partners with Kaiser Permanente to Help Feed Families in Need; Receives $20,000 Donation

Fairfax, Virginia, January 11, 2021:

The SevaTruck Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to reducing hunger to underserved and low-income communities across the Washington DC metro region, was recently honored with a $20,000 donation from Kaiser Permanente.  As the need for food assistance continues to increase amid the COVID-19 pandemic, this contribution will allow SevaTruck to gain new food distribution partners and deliver 10,000 more meals in Northern Virginia and throughout the DMV.

“This contribution to SevaTruck is one important part of the work that Kaiser Permanente is doing to remove barriers to health equity, such as food insecurity, as we seek to fulfill our mission to improve health in our communities,” said Celeste James, executive director of Community Health at Kaiser Permanente. “Kaiser Permanente’s partnership with SevaTruck represents our on-going commitment to residents of Northern Virginia, where Kaiser Permanente is supporting several community organizations that serve the Bailey’s Crossroads and Culmore communities to create long-term, sustainable pathways to better health, including access to affordable housing, healthy food, health care, and transportation.”

Since 2016, Sevatec, a Digital Modernization company focused on serving critical federal missions, and hundreds of generous donors have supported SevaTruck in delivering more than 165,000 meals to local families in the DC metro region and Detroit, MI. As the pandemic continues and the economy remains strained, the demand for food assistance has skyrocketed. Since the start of the pandemic, with the help of volunteers from Sevatec, the local communities, and supportive partners like Kaiser Permanente, SevaTruck has gone from distributing 400-500 hot meals a week to over 400 nutritious meals a day and hundreds of bagged groceries in response to the growing need to address food scarcity among at-risk families and veterans. “Now more than ever, these communities need organizations like SevaTruck to step up when schools are closed and access to food is scarce,” said Sonny Kakar, Founder and CEO of Sevatec and Executive Director of the SevaTruck Foundation. “I am grateful to Kaiser Permanente for their generosity and partnership.”
